Design Ops

GTB | VMLY&R

During my 4 years working with GTB and VMLY&R, I have progressed from a junior UX designer to a product design lead. Working in such a fast-paced environment alongside a massive client has given me the opportunity to step up and take ownership of a range of projects and influence how our team operates from a design ops point of view.

Management

Moving into the role of platform product design lead has seen me take responsibility across all project tribes as a reviewer, leader and line manager for our team of 5. I run team stand ups, platform-wide daily design drop ins, and am responsible for recruitment, scoping and appraisals.

Mentorship & Progression

Having experienced such a rapid trajectory into my current role, I have been helping to mentor and grow our junior designers into product designers. I have made sure to encourage them to not only challenge themselves, but to continue learning on a weekly basis. To help them do so, I started an agency first scheme that gives our designers the opportunity to allocate an hour and a half a week to focus on their own personal development. Through this, I have grown the skills of the team and the specialisms learnt have allowed them to confidently work on a range of projects that require both UX and UI.

Ways of Working

I’m a very process driven person who has been part of a major change in the ways of working at GTB and VMLY&R. Throughout the transition to Agile and Tribes, I worked alongside the platform’s programme director, coordinator and technology lead, which allowed me to better integrate our roles as designers into the full end-to-end process. Outside our day-to-day work, I have spent a lot of time creating onboarding content for new designers, and have played a crucial part in the creation, refinement and roll out of a new global handover process and naming convention. In turn, this has allowed us to work smarter and deliver high quality customer centric design work.
